My Story

My journey to becoming an acupuncturist began in 1988 after I was hit by a motorcycle. I spent 18 months in and out of physio. Then I was recommended acupuncture.

With media and convention holding that acupuncture was merely a placebo, I was convinced it wouldn't work. Three months later I could walk a mile, and even jog. My medication was reduced. I was amazed it worked despite the fact my brain said it wouldn't. So I decided to investigate further.

It was clear the benefits of acupuncture could be measured: from range of movement, pain management, the need for medication, and the speed with which treated patients could return to work.

My studying began in 1991, and by 1995 I was qualified and practising. I spent the second half of the decade developing my expertise, including fertility (with Zita West) and advanced musculo-skeletal techniques (with Tony Brewer), as well as complimentary Chinese Herbal medicine. As my experience grew, I saw that acupuncture had the potential to address not only physical, but mental and emotional issues, so in 2000 I obtained a certificate in psychotherapy to aid in my diagnoses and developing treatment programmes.

Since 1997, I have been practising at Natural Health - Hertford

I am also passionate about helping couples move forward in their fertility journey.  I am a member of the Acupuncture Childbirth Team (Herts) to continue to expand my knowledge in parallel with fertility clinics.

My Approach

The Pinto Acupuncture Clinic has been serving patients across Hertfordshire and beyond for over 25 years. From improving your energy, fertility or immune system, to managing pain, sleep or a range of illnesses, we offer a uniquely tailored consultation and treatment programme.

Acupuncture is part of the Chinese medicine healing system, originating over 3000 years ago. It boosts the blood supply and stimulates regeneration of soft tissue by inserting very fine sterile needles at locations linked to specific energy channels. It works well with both conventional medical treatments and other complimentary therapies.

As an acupuncturist I support the different stages of life, from fertility to palliative care. Around 40% of my patients are the elderly

Listening is a crucial part of my approach, which is why our sessions always begin with a conversation, to see how you are doing, both in mind and in body. My psychotherapy training has given me a deeper understanding of how mental health and physical wellbeing can be intrinsically linked, enabling me to help patients to move forward in their lives. Acupuncture can be used to support mild cases of depression, and to alleviate anxiety and panic attacks.
